Myth #3 – Process Servers Are Out To Get You
THIS IS NOT TRUE
Really? Think of a process servers as messengers, but with legal authority.
Ultimately, their. job is to protect the defendants right to be heard in court, by alerting them to the machinations of whatever legal situation they are in. Can you imagine how easy it would be for someone lacking ethics to run roughshod over a defendant if they did not have to serve notice legally? If you didn’t know to show up in court, and failed to appear, you could face a summary judgement in favor of the person suing you, and you would never know. A process server is not “out to get” the defendant in a case. Their ultimate purpose is to ensure your rights in court and ensure that you have received appropriate notice of the proceeding in court against the defendant.
